Everything you need to know about multi-pet insurance

If you own more than one pet, a multi-pet insurance policy might be more cost-effective and easier to manage than taking out separate policies for each pet. It works in the same way as standard pet insurance but it provides cover for two or more pets under the same policy.

What are the benefits of multi-pet insurance?

With multi-pet insurance you’ll have cover for multiple pets under one single policy. This usually means you’ll have the same renewal date for every pet included in your policy. You'll also have the same documents.

John Lewis Multi-Pet Insurance offers the following benefits:

  • Up to £12,000 vet fees each year for each insured pet
  • Choose different cover levels for different pets
  • Add more pets to your policy at any time
  • 24/7 vetfone™ helpline
  • 10% discount on your policy
  • 95% of claims paid within 5 days (Claims data from May 2023 to October 2023)

Multi-pet insurance is often cheaper than separate policies for different pets. If your pets require different levels of cover, your multi-pet policy can be tailored to suit the needs of your individual pets.

Is multi-pet insurance cheaper?

At John Lewis, multi-pet insurance comes with a 10% discount to your policy. This could make it cheaper than having separate insurance policies for your pets. Simplified administration and consistent policy details make covering multiple pets easier to manage, which is reflected in the price.

Is pet insurance cheaper for mixed breeds?

There are many factors that affect how much your pet insurance policy is, and one of those factors is the breed. Pedigree pets are often more expensive to insure as they could be more susceptible to genetic illnesses. But there are some breeds that are less expensive to insure than others.

When you get a quote, we'll ask if any of your pets are pedigree - which means both their parents are the same breed. If you are able to find out, it’s worth checking if any of your pets are a pedigree. This will help you anticipate any future health problems.
